The Virginia Storm Chasing blog chronicles my storm chasing adventures both here in Virginia and on the Great Plains. I began chasing storms in 2002 and by the summer of 2005 l’d decided a blog was necessary to record details of these chases mainly for my own benefit.
Until the spring of 2012 the Virginia chasing territory encompassed the region north of I-64 and east of the Blue Ridge mountains. After that point a personal relocation changed the main target to south of I-64 down to the North Carolina state line, with occasional forays into the Tarheel state. Tornado Alley chasing is also factored into the blog as I have the time and mental energy during those trips.
In 2013 I was contacted by a Richmond VA television station and chased for them that season. Beginning in 2014 I agreed to provide reports and video to WDBJ7 (Roanoke VA) as an independent storm chaser and that relationship continues today. That station has the exclusive rights within the Roanoke/Lynchburg TV market to broadcast my livestream. (It is viewable by anyone but can’t be rebroadcast without permission.) Outside the Roanoke/Lynchburg area Severe Studios has marketed my feed to national outlets a few times.
A number of video clips from both Virginia and Great Plains chases are posted on my YouTube channel as well. I’ve also published a few books via Blurb.com and Shutterfly (one of which is here) which detail my storm chase experiences. None of those tomes are Pulitzer Prize worthy.
